EU Government Notices for March 9

The European Union issued the following trade-related releases on March 9, 2011:

Import controls on Chinese plastic kitchenware. On July 1, 2011, specific conditions and detailed procedures will begin to apply for Chinese imports of polyamide and melamine plastic kitchenware based off a December 2010 draft regulation. (here)
EU bilateral & multilateral trade agenda. The EU Trade Commissioner will visit Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea March 13-21, 2011 to discuss Malaysian free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations, trade rules on raw materials, duty-free, quota-free access for Papua New Guinea goods to the EU, etc. (here)
Trade legislation procedures. The European Commission has proposed to update the way decisions on trade policy are adopted in the EU to increase legislation transparency in antidumping, trade in defense items, the EU's GSP, trade barriers, etc. The proposal will need to be adopted by the European Council and Parliament. Maritime policy on the Atlantic. The European Parliament urged the European Commission to put forward by June 2011 a strategy for the Atlantic Ocean in a resolution adopted on March 8, 2011. The strategy should address maritime policy, the environment, pollution, transport, safety, security, etc. (here)
Turkey & Montenegro's EU membership. The European Parliament has adopted two resolutions on the progress of Turkey and Montenegro in their EU membership negotiations, welcoming Montenegro's official candidate status and expressing concern at the slow progress on key reforms in Turkey in 2010. (here)
