EU Government Notices for Dec 8 - 12

The European Union issued the following trade-related releases on December 8 - 12, 2011 (notices of most significance will be given separate headlines):

UN Durban climate conference reaches agreement. The EU welcomes the agreement reached at the UN climate conference in Durban on a roadmap for drawing up a legal framework by 2015 for climate action by all countries. The Durban conference also agreed that there will be a second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, made operational the new Green Climate Fund for developing countries and approved a series of other measures. Good labeling practice code published for pet food. The Commission has published a Code of good labeling practice for pet food. The "layman's guide" contained in the code will enable consumers to understand pet food labels better and to chose the right food for their animals. Pet food labeling rules go beyond product labels and also cover product fliers and other means of information including the Internet. (here)
EU grants Cape Verde GSP+ status. The EU has granted GSP+ status to Cape Verde, which grants preferential access to the EU market when certain conditions of good governance are fulfilled. Cape Verde will continue to enjoy preferential access to the EU after its graduation from the "Everything But Arms" (EBA) initiative. (here)
EU signs accession treaty with Croatia. The Treaty of Accession with Croatia has been signed, paving the way for the ratification procedures that will allow Croatia to become the 28th member of the EU on July 1, 2013. (here)
ECHA report on successful REACH registrants. The European Chemicals Agency has published the feedback of REACH registrants providing valuable information for future registrants ahead of the 2013 deadline. Based on the feedback, ECHA will continue developing and promoting the Chesar tool for Chemical Safety Assessments and Reports, work further to provide updated supporting material, and will aim to further improve its communication channels. ECHA committee adopts 13 classification & labeling opinions. The Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) has adopted 13 opinions on proposals for harmonized classification and labeling across the EU. (here)
ECHA updates on IUCLID software. The IUCLID team has announced its plans for further development of IUCLID, such as the ending of support for the web application server, WebLogic, and has introduced new communication channels to keep users better informed. (here)
Recalls. The European Commission has issued its weekly lists of measures to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of 36 and 30 products in the EU, including certain clothing, toys, clothing, chemical products, electrical appliances, etc. (here) (here)
