Canadian Government Notices as of April 8

The government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices as of April 8 (note that some may also be given separate headlines):

• CBSA revises schedule on reinvestigation into certain dry wheat pasta from Turkey. The Canada Border Services Agency has revised the schedule in relation to the reinvestigation to update the normal values, export prices, and amounts of subsidy of certain dry wheat pasta originating in or exported from Turkey. Revisions were made in order to alleviate pressures from the COVID‑19 pandemic response affecting interested parties. The reinvestigation will conclude by July 8, 2020.
• Imports goods for emergency use in response to COVID-19. The Canada Border Services Agency on April 7 issued an update to Customs Notice 20-08 of March 16, which provides information on the use of the Goods for Emergency Use Remission Order, (C.R.C., c. 768), and application of Tariff Item No. 9993.00.00 of the Customs Tariff in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tariff item allows for the relief of duty and tax for goods required for an emergency and that are imported by or on behalf of federal, provincial or municipal entities involved, such as centers for health care as well as by or on behalf of members of first response organizations such as police, fire and local civil defense groups, including medical response teams. As of April 6, these goods may also be imported by or on behalf of public or private care residences, such as seniors’ residences, retirement homes, nursing homes and shelters.
• NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. Global Affairs Canada updated the 2020 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports.
• Product Recall: MedReleaf Corp. recalls two lots of San Rafael ’71 Island Sweet Skunk dried cannabis grown in Canada, for labeling that does not include correct level of chemicals in product.
