Magistrate Judge Issues Status Report Order in Ill. VPPA Suit vs. Nexstar

U.S. Magistrate Judge Eric Long directed the parties in a Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) lawsuit Wednesday to provide a status report within seven days of the District Court of Massachusetts' ruling on Frawley v. Nexstar, said a Thursday text order in U.S. District Court for Central Illinois in Peoria (docket 1:23-cv-01050). Nexstar Media asked the Illinois court Tuesday (see 2305170029) to hold plaintiff Zachary Rohlfs’ pending motion to dismiss or transfer his VPPA lawsuit against Nexstar in abeyance, referencing “suspect timing” of Rohlfs’ May 1 notice of voluntary dismissal of his claim. Rohlfs’ Feb. 9 class action alleged Nexstar knowingly disclosed to Facebook data containing subscribers’ personal identifiable information and digital files of videos viewed on its WGNTV.com website.
