Judge Grants Plaintiffs 10-Day Extension to File Amended Complaint in Meta Action

U.S. District Judge William Orrick for Northern California in San Francisco granted the plaintiffs’ stipulation and proposed order to extend their deadline to file a consolidated amended class action in a privacy suit vs. Meta, said his signed order Tuesday (docket 3:22-cv-03580). Orrick this month denied Meta’s motion to dismiss claims in the John Doe v. Meta privacy class action that it violated the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and California Invasion of Privacy Act, plus allegations of breach of contract and unjust enrichment. He granted the motion with leave to amend other claims in the case (see 2309080055. John Doe plaintiffs in the case allege Meta uses its Pixel tracking tool to intercept individuals’ personally identifiable medical information, and the content of patient communications from Facebook users, then monetizes it for financial gain. The plaintiffs’ amended class action complaint is due Oct. 10.
