Chinese Newspaper Says Xinjiang Exports Climbing

Despite the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, which should put a damper on exports in supply chains of goods that are destined for the U.S., exports from Xinjiang are climbing sharply, by nearly 50%, according to a recent report in the South China Morning Post.

The dollar amount could be growing as the province moves into higher-value goods -- from cotton, tomatoes and apparel to solar cells, electric vehicles and lithium batteries.

The report said that Xinjiang's top exports had been apparel, shoes, hats and electromechanical products, but green products now top those. "In the first nine months Xinjiang’s exports of electric vehicles, lithium batteries and solar cells rose by 62 percent," the paper said.
