Markey and Cassidy Reintroduce COPPA 2.0 Bill

Sens. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., on Tuesday reintroduced legislation that would update the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Their COPPA 2.0 bill would ban targeted advertising aimed at minors, create data deletion rights for minors, set data minimization rules, update COPPA’s actual knowledge standard and ban companies from collecting personal information of users between 13 and 16 years old without consent. The reintroduced bill is virtually the same text that passed the Senate in July with the Kids Online Safety Act, according to Senate staff.
