Trump Threatens More Punishment for Canada, EU If They Coordinate Retaliation
Just before 2 a.m. on March 27, President Donald Trump posted on social media: "If the European Union works with Canada in order to do economic harm to the USA, large scale Tariffs, far larger than currently planned, will be placed on them both in order to protect the best friend that each of those two countries has ever had!"
However, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, earlier this month, told reporters in London, "We take our own decisions with respect to our bilateral trade relationships with the United States. We’re not trying to organize coordinated retaliation."
He also said, "There is a limit to matching these tariffs dollar for dollar given the fact that our economy is a tenth the size of the United States."
Canada and the EU are talking about working together to make military equipment, given the Trump administration's hostility toward both Canada and Europe.
